More reports lodged over Hadi's 'corrupt non-Muslims' remark

More individuals have lodged police reports against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang relating to his allegedly inflammatory statement, which claimed that non-Muslims and non-bumiputera make up the bulk of the “root of corruption” in the country.

Global Human Rights Federation president S Shashi Kumar, who lodged a report at Sentul district police station, said it has been eight days since Hadi’s reported statement but no action has been taken by respective authorities.

“In today’s report, we are demanding for action to be taken against Hadi as stipulated by Malaysian law under the Sedition Act.

“We urge the police not to apply double standards just because he is a leader of an Islamic party, as all persons are equal before the law as guaranteed by Article 8 of the Federal Constitution,” said Shashi Kumar in a statement.

“Further, no one including Hadi is above the law.

“The PAS president and PAS itself is a threat to the peaceful co-existence of multiracial, multicultural, and multireligious Malaysia,” he stressed.

On Aug 20, Hadi took to Facebook and blamed Malays for being apathetic to voting, resulting in non-Malays and “liberals” gaining control of the country’s political power in the last general election.

The Marang MP also said that corruption stemmed from those who reaped profits through illegal means, alleging the majority of them were non-Muslims and non-bumiputera.

Others who had lodged a police report against Hadi include the DAP, aside from NGOs urging authorities to take action.

Further, Shashi Kumar said the time has also come for authorities to consider dissolving PAS on grounds of the party’s allegedly extremist ideology, as how the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) was disbanded over its radical struggle.

“It’s very clear that Hadi is trying to gain support for GE15 by playing the racial and religious card.

“By right, political parties like PAS should be dissolved like MCP as such parties are neither aligned with our Federal Constitution nor the tenets of the Rukun Negara,” he claimed.

Aside from Hadi’s remarks, Shashi Kumar also took aim at PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s recent tirade against the continuous holding of concerts in Malaysia, calling on bans on concerts by foreign celebrities.

He stressed that any efforts by PAS to stop such concerts would go against the freedom of others to attend. - Mkini
