IPOH: Free online tuition classes have been started for schoolchildren in Anwar Ibrahim’s parliamentary constituency of Tambun.
Hairul Amir Sabri, a constituency aide to Anwar, said the online classes would be open to nearly 20,000 students in the constituency, especially those from the B40 (lower-income) and M40 (middle-income) groups.
The classes began when the new school year started in March, and are available to pupils in Year One to Form Five, he said, with the main target being pupils sitting for major examinations, including the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
The free classes could help families save several hundred ringgit a month, he said. “For example, if a family has three children and each subject costs RM50, the family would need to spend RM200 for four subjects per child, or a total of RM600 for all three.”
Hairul Amir said SMK Tanjong Rambutan had been included in the programme.
The school’s principal, Adek Abdul Rahman, said that he hoped the classes would help parents encourage their children to continue studying and to excel academically. - FMT
