Noh: PN can win Selangor in two-way fight

Perikatan Nasional (PN) can win Selangor in the upcoming state election if there is a two-cornered fight between the coalition and the Pakatan Harapan-BN combo.

Former Umno leader Noh Omar said this as he believes that PN can at least sweep 33 out of the 56 seats in the state legislative assembly.

"Selangor has a mixed electorate. At a time when there was a three-way fight between PN, Harapan and BN, the Harapan candidate won because of the split in Malay votes.

"God willing, today in Selangor, there will be two-way clashes between PN and the Harapan-BN combo," the former Selangor Umno chief said during a PN event in Sungai Besar last night.

PN’s ‘excellent’ GE15 performance

Speaking at the same event, PN deputy secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan cited PN's "excellent" performance in winning 74 parliamentary seats in the 15th general election, to rouse hope for what is to come in the state polls.

The PAS secretary-general also alleged that when the PAS leadership met Umno representatives prior to GE15, the Umno team had given the former a choice to sever ties with Bersatu for seats in return.

"If PAS left Bersatu to join forces with Umno, (Umno) party president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) would offer PAS president (Abdul Hadi Awang) 40 parliamentary seats to contest, which he said PAS can surely win.

"But ladies and gentlemen, in the spirit of ummah unity, we (PAS) stuck with Bersatu and BN, and PAS alone won 43 parliamentary seats," Takiyuddin said.

On Selangor, Takiyuddin said he will fully mobilise the PAS machinery in the state.

"We plan our every move to convince the rakyat that PN is the only choice to administer not only Selangor but the country.

"I believe that we will win at least 29 seats to get the simple majority to rule the state," he added.

Last month, Selangor PN chairperson Azmin Ali said that the coalition was capable of winning 33 state seats, based on the number of votes it won at the parliamentary level, divided by the number of state seats that fall under it. - Mkini
