‘Wrongful’ raid claim referred to immigration, say cops

The couple’s son was advised by an immigration officer to ‘file a lawsuit against the home ministry’ over the damage caused to their property.

PETALING JAYA: The police have decided not to act on an elderly couple’s report against the immigration department over a raid the couple said had “wrongfully” targeted them.

Instead, Sentul police chief Sukarno Zahari said, the matter had been referred to the immigration department since it directly involved them.

“The police have classified the case as RoA, or referred to other agencies, specifically to the immigration department, as the complainant is dissatisfied over damage sustained during a raid by immigration officers,” he told FMT.

In the 3am incidentat the Putra Majestic Condominium in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, the Malaysian couple said a man claiming to be an immigration officer broke open the door to their condominium unit and stormed into their bedroom.

The couple told FMT the man ordered them to show their MyKad, and claimed he did not provide any form of identification.

The husband then lodged a report at the Sentul police headquarters  before contacting the immigration department regarding the raid.

The couple’s son, Prem, said an unnamed officer from the Jalan Duta immigration office advised the couple to “file a lawsuit against the home ministry” over the damage caused to their property.

According to the immigration department’s Facebook page, 69 undocumented migrants were detained after a raid at the same condominium building early yesterday morning. - FMT
