Kit Siang's dare to Hadi: Read the two volumes on Kit Siang

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has challenged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to read the two volumes of his biography titled ‘Lim Kit Siang: Malaysian First’.

Following which, he called on Hadi to substantiate his “wild and preposterous allegations” that he is “anti-Malay, anti-Islam, anti-royalty, a communist and spreading Islamophobia”.

Failing which, he said the PAS leader must retract his allegations.

Earlier this month, Lim had expressed support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s offer to PAS to join his coalition government.

However, he listed three conditions, which included Hadi retracting and apologising to him over his baseless allegations.

The PAS president has since ruled out joining hands with Anwar and DAP, claiming that the government comprises “impure” elements.

Meanwhile, in his speech at the launch of the second volume of his biography in Penang this afternoon, Lim said Anwar’s administration is not made up of “saints who are infallible”.

“They comprise Malaysian men and women with honourable purpose and good intentions to make Malaysia great again but who are capable of making mistakes. The important point is that they are capable of rectifying their mistakes.

“The time to pass judgment whether the Anwar unity government has failed Malaysians is not now but in the 16th general election in another three or four years’ time.

“The test is whether, in the next three to four years, Anwar’s unity government is capable of correcting the mistakes of the last few decades to make Malaysia rise up again to become a great world-class nation in education, health, economic progress and prosperity, environment, the rule of law and human rights,” he added.

Political turmoil

For the past four years, Lim said Malaysia had been in the throes of political turmoil.

“Until a few months ago, there was a possibility that Anwar’s government could be toppled, but that is now history.

“I think we can now be assured of three or four years of political stability and we must concentrate on how we could be a successful nation and be a great world-class nation that could be a model to the world in inter-racial, inter-religious, inter-cultural and inter-civilisational dialogue, understanding, tolerance and harmony,” he added.

Lim also touched on DAP’s internal issues, particularly concerning Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s position.

“I have been retired from front-line DAP politics for over a year, but I must express my surprise that differences of opinion as to how to handle certain issues have been inflated to a plot to overthrow Chow.

“I believe I am not so ‘retired’ politically as not to be unaware of any plot to topple Chow as Penang chief minister,” he added.

Previously, Lim’s son and DAP national chairperson Guan Eng urged Chow to furnish proof when the latter claimed there were those within and outside the party who wanted to remove him. - Mkini
