KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain is believed to have caused a 30m landslide at a slope near the Taman Cheras Mas apartments here.
Selangor fire and rescue department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said a team from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn fire station was dispatched to the location of the incident after receiving a call at 4.35pm.
“We observed the slope to ensure that there is no risk to the public and we have also cordoned off the area,” he said in a statement, adding that the landslide occurred about 30m to 45m from the apartments.
No casualties were reported and the case has been handed over to the local authorities for further action.
Apartment resident, Yong Ah Kew, 65, said the incident was more serious than the landslide that had occurred in the area in June.
Resident Lim Cheng San, 64, said a small landslide had occurred before and residents had filed complaints with the Kajang Municipal Council.
“Many children often played near where the landslide occurred and I’m glad that it did not result in any loss of life,” he said. - FMT
