The 2023 PKR Congress will discuss issues of the country and the people as opposed to the Bersatu general assembly, which is currently more focused on the presidency held by Muhyiddin Yassin, said its secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
In his opening speech, Saifuddin said the PKR Congress needs to raise important issues of governance and administrative transparency. However, he was also unable to resist taking a swipe at his rival party’s presidential dramatics.
“PKR’s annual congress coincides with the Bersatu party’s general assembly.
“The Bersatu general assembly said its president announced his resignation and wanted to step down. The debaters then asked him not to step down.
“The Supreme Council held a special meeting and refused to accept it. At the end of the day, the president will not step down. People’s issues, economic issues, international issues are not the focus,” Saifuddin said at PICC, Putrajaya, last night.
He said, however, that the PKR Congress must not turn out similarly.
Saifuddin also instructed that delegates raise important issues with a focus on good governance and administrative transparency.
“The PKR Congress must talk about political stability, boosting the economy, and focusing on the welfare and justice of the people.
“The most important thing is to practice good governance. This congress has two significant milestones as we are on the verge of turning 25 years old in April next year.
“Moreover, Nov 25 is exactly one year since (party president) Anwar Ibrahim became prime minister, and one year since the formation of the coalition government,” he said. - Mkini
