Can Padu be free from internal sabotage, Wee asks Rafizi

Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong said he wants reassurances from economy minister Rafizi Ramli that Padu is 100% secure.

PETALING JAYA: Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong has asked economy minister Rafizi Ramli if he can ensure that the central database hub (Padu) will be free from internal sabotage.

“Padu’s security issue is not only threatened by hackers, but what if an insider with malicious intent decided to steal Padu data?” said Wee, who is MCA president.

“I remember there was a data theft from a local bank because an employee provided sensitive information to outsiders. What can be done if this happened to Padu? The security would have been compromised and any legal action would come too late,” Wee said in a TikTok video today.

He was responding to Selangor PKR Youth deputy information chief Fauzi Fadzil who, in defending Rafizi, said the minister had not brushed aside doubts about the security and confidentiality of Padu. Fauzi said on April 1 that there were more than 2 million daily attempts to breach Padu’s firewalls but none had succeeded.

However, Wee hit back, calling for Rafizi to pledge that Padu will be “100% hack-proof”, reiterating concerns raised by cybersecurity expert Fong Choong Fook, who had claimed last week that Padu was developed using “outdated” methods.

“If Rafizi can guarantee that Padu is 100% secure and provide strong reasons, then I will throw my full support behind it. However, concerned Malaysians like me are worried about his ‘expert formula’,” he added.

Wee, a former federal minister, also said Padu had received widespread criticism, including from the Sarawak government, a government ally. - FMT
