PETALING JAYA: There is no let up in the heat alerts for parts of the country despite the inter-monsoon having rolled in since last week.
According to the latest advisory by the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), eight places are under Level 2 heat alerts as at 4.30pm on Friday (April 5).
The places are Padang Terap in Kedah, Hulu Perak in Perak, Jeli and Gua Musang in Kelantan, Jerantut, Raub, Temerloh and Bera in Pahang.
Under Level 2, daily maximum temperatures are likely to reach between 37 degrees Celcius and 40 degrees Celcius for three consecutive days.
Thirty-three other places are under Level 1 heat alerts.
They are Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim, Baling, Sik, Bandar Baharu and Pokok Sena), Penang (Seberang Perai Tengah and Timur Laut), Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar), Pahang (Lipis, Pekan, Maran, Rompin and Bentong), Negri Sembilan (Jelebu and Tampin), Johor (Muar and Segamat), Terengganu (Dusun and Besut) and Kelantan (Kuala Krai and Pasir Puteh).
Over in East Malaysia, Sarawak (Mukah and Limbang), and Sabah (Tenom, Kota Belud and Kota Marudu) are also under Level 1 heat alert.
Under Level 1, daily maximum temperatures may reach between 35 degrees Celcius and 37 degrees Celcius for three consecutive days.
On March 25, the department said in a statement that the inter-monsoon would take place from March 29 until May this year.
During this phase, the country would receive weak winds from various directions which would form thunderstorms that usually bring heavy rain and strong winds in a short period.
As such, this phenomenon is expected to bring a gradual end to the heatwave by mid-April, said the department. - Star
