No one spared from action on 3R sensitive issues, says Anwar

GEORGE TOWN: No one, including those from political parties, will be spared for playing up sensitive 3R issues of race, religion and royalty, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Action would be taken, no matter who the person is, and investigations would be carried out and arrests made if required. They would be charged and would have to serve punishment for challenging the constitution and the rights of the people, whether Muslims or Non-Muslims, said Anwar.

“This is important for us to understand … issues that can trigger problems like the socks imprinted with the word ‘Allah’. So we detain, charge and move forward.

“We should not use this particular issue or other issues to stoke hatred, create unnecessary problems that can disrupt peace and harmony in the nation. This is important, be it Muslims or non-Muslims.

“I must stress that we will not compromise or tolerate issues that challenge the royal institution,” he said when chairing a briefing on development in Penang in response to a question about the status of Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh.

Anwar said Akmal was not arrested but was only called in for investigations over a recent speech in Kelantan. - FMT
