PN shouldn't dream about capturing KKB - PKR leader

KKB BY-ELECTION | Hulu Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Sathia Prakash has advised Perikatan Nasional to not “dream about” capturing the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state seat in the upcoming by-election.

This is due to the late DAP rep Lee Kee Hiong’s track record in serving the constituency, Sathia (above) said.

“We welcome anyone to contest in the KKB state seat by-election. And we see there are several Indian leaders eager to work with PN, particularly PAS.

“My advice to them is, ‘don’t dream’ of capturing KKB. This is because the track record of the late Lee will ensure a Harapan win in the by-election,” Sathia, who is also PKR deputy secretary-general, told Malaysiakini.

He was responding to PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, who said PN can potentially seize the state seat held by DAP for three consecutive terms.

Former Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy has also announced that his newly established United for the Rights of Malaysians Party (Urimai) will work with fraternal political parties and NGOs to dissuade Indian voters from supporting the Harapan candidate in the by-election.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed May 11 as polling day for the by-election. The nomination day will be on Apr 27, while early voting will take place on May 7.

Elaborating, Sathia said he is optimistic about Harapan’s chance of retaining the state seat, based on the achievement of the state government.

“I don’t deny that there are still people in Hulu Selangor who fall for the propaganda played up by PN.

“However, I believe the 14-day campaigning period will give them the opportunity to understand the efforts taken by the federal and state governments to ensure their welfare, as well as infrastructure and human capital developments,” he said.

Sathia believes the mixed racial make-up in the state seat, which comprises 46 percent Malay voters, followed by Chinese (30 percent), Indians (18 percent), and others (six percent) will be advantageous for Harapan.

A total of 40,226 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the upcoming polls. Of that number, a total of 39,362 are ordinary voters, 238 are military personnel and their spouses, 625 are police personnel, and one overseas absentee voter. - Mkini
