Punish my son if he's guilty, Perlis MB tells MACC

Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli is fine with the MACC prosecuting his son if indeed the latter had been involved in the submission of false documents and claims involving RM600,000 over the past two years.

“This (the arrest) is a test that I have to go through now, and if my son is found guilty, then by all means punish him, as I have imparted knowledge and education (to him).

“I also advised about such things to my officer. However, I am not persistently worrying about this issue, and I do not have any prejudice against the MACC until they complete their investigations,” Berita Harian quoted Shukri saying in his speech at the state legislative assembly sitting in Kangar, Perlis, today.

Shukri admitted that his weakness in the state administration is “trusting” everyone too easily.d I trust everyone and give them freedom, but I must realise that no one is above the law, including me.

“This morning, they (the MACC) came and searched my house in Sungai Padang, as well as Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti), before taking my son for further remand.

“I would like to reiterate that my office is open around the clock for MACC checks, as I don't any misappropriation (to happen),” the PAS leader was quoted saying.

He added that the graftbusters are also conducting checks at every state constituency service centre in Perlis.

Remand extended

Earlier today, it was reported that the remand order for Shukri’s son, and four others, have been extended until tomorrow to facilitate investigations into a case of producing falsified documents to make RM600,000 in claims since 2022.

At the same time, a civil servant in the State Secretary’s Office who was previously remanded has been released after investigations against him concluded.

Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor granted the remand extension following an application from the MACC to conduct investigations under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

The MACC detained the suspects, aged 26 to 37, between 7am and 8am around the state on Tuesday.

The case relating to document forgery in making false claims is being investigated after the project in question was not carried out.

The project, which involved maintenance, repair, supply, and service works from 2022 until now, is estimated to be worth RM600,000. - Mkini
