KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd suffered losses of about RM40 million when fire destroyed an electrical cable warehouse on Jalan Menggatal near here yesterday, SESB chairman Wilfred Madius Tangau said.
He added that the fire, which started around noon, destroyed many of the cables kept there, which will have to be replaced.
“This is an unfortunate incident, considering that it impacts our efforts to provide the best electricity infrastructure for Sabahans.
“However, this doesn’t dampen our spirit,” he said at the scene here today.
Tangau said the biggest challenge during the fire was getting water from the fire hydrant and nearby ditch, adding that water had to be sourced from 1km away.
“This fire required high-pressure water, so we needed a large enough source,” he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that the fire destroyed the warehouse, situated on a 1.2-hectare site. - FMT
