Train frequency on Tanjung Malim-KL Sentral route cut to 15 mins

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says work on the Klang Valley Double Tracking Phase 2 will begin at the end of this month.

KUALA LUMPUR: The train frequency for the KTM Komuter Tanjung Malim-KL Sentral route will be increased from once per hour to once every 15 minutes, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

Loke said this follows the completion of track and infrastructure works for the Rawang-KL Sentral sector under the Klang Valley Double Tracking Phase 1 (KVDT1) on March 31.

He said the revised schedule will take effect on April 22 during the morning and evening peak hours.

“From 7am to 9am, there will be seven trips from Tanjung Malim to KL Sentral,” he told a press conference after handing out Hari Raya Aidilfitri gift bags to KTM passengers today.

“Likewise, from 5pm to 7pm, the frequency of trains from KL Sentral to Tanjung Malim will increase to every 15 minutes.”

He said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) plans to extend the new schedule to regular hours starting in July.

“As a start, we will implement this schedule during peak hours, as we are aware of the heightened demand during these periods,” he said.

He also said work on the Klang Valley Double Tracking Phase 2 (KVDT2) will begin at the end of this month.

In a written parliamentary reply on March 8, Loke had said KVDT1 is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024, and KVDT2 is projected to be completed in the first quarter of 2029.

KVDT1 covers the Rawang to Salak Selatan route, while the KVDT2 encompasses the Salak Selatan to Seremban and Simpang Pelabuhan Klang to Pelabuhan Klang routes. - FMT
