Video of 9-yo Chinese girl displaying incredible Shaolin martial arts skills wows netizens

A POST showcasing a nine-year-old child’s dexterity and sheer skills in martial art has charmed netizens the world over.

The video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by poster Science Girl (@gunsrosesgirl3) is of Zhang Sixuan who was crowned a “star” at the 2024 Shaolin Kung Fu competition.

According to PR News Wire Agency, the 2024 Shaolin Games came to a conclusion on July 14 in a vibrant celebration of martial arts and international camaraderie at Shaolin Temple on Mount Song in Henan, China.

The event featured stars from six continents with 144 contestants from 47 countries participating. A total of 10 champions were crowned the “2024 World Shaolin Kung Fu Stars”.

Clips of the young kung fu star has been making the rounds on social media, generating plenty of praise for Zhang’s extraordinary abilities.

This is a sample of what is being said.

With one comparing the young lass to an animated character with supreme martial arts skills.

While another noted the extreme discipline that is required to be able to pull off such moves.

However, one netizen noted that it is imperative that the child’s happiness is of the utmost importance, insinuating that such accomplishments cannot be achieved at the expense of the child’s emotional and mental well-being.

With another echoing those sentiments wondering if a nine-year-old actually enjoys the gruelling practice sessions required to achieve such levels of skill.

However, a few reckoned that the clip is reminiscent of actress Linda Blair’s contortionist act in the horror classic – The Exorcist.

One jokingly said this was not a child but a demo of China’s first self-autonomous robots!

Another netizen also quite succinctly pointed out that Zhang probably did not spend her entire day glued to a mobile device.

The wire story also notes that since debuting in 2022, the Shaolin Games have served as a cultural envoy for Shaolin, garnering attention from various cultural groups.

The event has received accolades and well-wishes from ambassadors, government officials, parliament members, and religious leaders worldwide.

Commendations from scholars, martial artists, authors, celebrities and numerous Shaolin disciples have also poured in, highlighting the event’s role in fostering cultural exchange.

Given how much attention this video has got on social and traditional media, perhaps the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry may want to think along similar lines with events to promote Malaysia and its martial arts heritage.
