All mosques under the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will organise a solat jenazah ghaib (funeral prayers in the absence of the dead) for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran, Iran earlier today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na'im Mokhtar reportedly has ordered Jakim and the Federal Territories Islamic Affairs Department (Jawi) to ask mosques under their purview to hold the prayers.
"I am in Cairo and an order has been issued. We will get more information first.
“I have asked all mosques under Jakim and Jawi to do solat ghaib once Ismail's body has been given his final bath," the Malay daily Sinar Harian reported him as saying.
It was reported that Ismail, who is the chief of the Hamas political bureau, was killed in a raid allegedly by Israel against his residence in Iran's capital city.
According to Bernama, Hamas blamed it on "a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran".
Ismail was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian. - Mkini
