To be held on April 26 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Dogathon 2025 promises to be an “un-paw-gettable” experience!
Organised by the Veternak Club, or the student council of UPM’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and supported by FMT Lifestyle, the event is open to all dog breeds. This year marks the 25th edition of Dogathon, with the theme “Dogémon”.
Fun fact: the 18th Dogathon in 2014 earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records for “The Biggest Dog Gathering in Malaysia”, with 1,216 canines attending. Will there be even more dogs this year? That’s up to you!
The event’s main highlight is the dog race – a 1 kilometre fun run for furparents and their dogs. There are four categories, based on the dog’s size and gender.
Along the route, there will be four obstacles to tackle and upon completion, you’ll earn a medal. There’s no time limit, so you can enjoy the run at your own pace – or your furkid’s!
The fun doesn’t stop there. “’Pawfect Memories’ has been one of the most popular activities at past Dogathons and we expect it to be the same this year,” said Leong Yi Shyan, 22, one of the event directors.
At this station, you can create a personalised paw-printed tote bag or framed artwork with your dog to take home. The paint provided, Leong added, is safe for both dogs and children.
There is also the “Dogémon Adventure House” which features interactive games such as treat hunts and hide-and-seek. Complete the games within the time limit to earn a prize!
More fun awaits at the “Dogémon Pawsuit Pursuit” corner, where you must work with your dog to navigate obstacles, and get your dog to perform tricks, among others, to earn costume pieces. The goal is to collect a complete themed outfit by the end.
Or head over to the Dogémon Gym, a fun obstacle course that tests your dog’s physical ability, and how well they work with you.
But beyond just having fun, you’ll be supporting a meaningful cause.
“This is a charity event, and our main objective is to raise funds for our animal welfare project, ‘Prokasih’ or ‘Projek Pengkasian Haiwan Terbiar’ (Stray Animal Neutering Project),” said Tan En Yang, 22, also an event director.
Prokasih aims to control the population of stray animals in a humane way through “catch, neuter and rehome” programmes.
There will also be a vet consultation station offering services for just RM10, excluding medication, with proceeds going to Prokasih. And if you feel peckish, there are food stands selling sandwiches, desserts and more!
Tan also shared that Dogathon this year will include two online contests: the Dogathon Memes Contest and Dogé-Pup Cosplay Challenge.
For the Memes Contest, simply create a dog-themed meme, upload it via a Google form (link below) and post it on Instagram.
As for the Dogé-Pup Cosplay Challenge, take a photo of your furry friend in a costume, upload the photo via a Google form (link below) and share it on Instagram.
“Come, be a part of this event and contribute to the effort of making our society a stray-free one,” Leong concluded.

Dogs are required to go through a physical examination at the entrance to ensure they are fit to participate.
