Several residents FMT met had expressed discontent that Mohamad was not present yesterday after a gas pipeline fire left 111 people injured – 13 in critical condition – and destroyed 87 homes.
Putra Heights falls under the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.
Mohamad was first elected as the Kota Raja MP in 2018 and retained the seat in an eight-cornered contest at the last general election in 2022.
When contacted, Mohamad’s aide Adeysham Nor told FMT that Mohamad, more commonly known as Mat Sabu, had spent the first day of Hari Raya on March 31 in Kota Raja and was in Penang over the past two days for the second and third day of the celebrations.
“Mohamad will visit the victims in hospital and the incident site tomorrow,” said Adeysham, adding that Mohamad is expected to return to Kuala Lumpur tonight.
“He has been receiving updates on the incident from the Kota Raja service centre and the Selangor government.”
Authorities reported that 538 residents from 120 families had been forced to seek shelter at two temporary relief centres at the Putra Heights mosque and the Subang Jaya City Council multipurpose hall. - FMT
