Relief efforts to come under Selangor MB, Petronas

KUALA LUMPUR: 

Relief efforts for victims of the Putra Heights gas fire are to be coordinated with the Selangor menteri besar and Petronas, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement today.

“Close cooperation between the federal government, the state government and the industrial sector is crucial in addressing this situation swiftly and comprehensively,” the statement said.

The statement said the prime minister would continue to monitor the developments and fully support all recovery and safety efforts.

The fire at the Petronas gas pipeline on Tuesday destroyed 87 houses while 148 homes were damaged. The fire affected 1,254 people from 308 families.

A 65-year-old man is in intensive care at Ampang hospital, after suffering second-degree burns, the health ministry said. A total of 46 people are receiving treatment at hospitals and clinics – 26 at government hospitals and the others in private facilities.

The ministry said 135 people at relief centres are being provided with psychological therapy. - FMT
