BALING: Swift action by the Civil Defence Force (CDF) prevented a villager's goat from falling prey to a five-metre-long reticulated python in Kampung Tebing Tinggi earlier today.
Baling CDF officer Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said a rescue team was dispatched at 5.10pm following a distress call from a livestock owner, who spotted the massive snake near a goat enclosure beside her rubber smallholding.
"The 90kg python was seen trailing a group of goats. Fortunately, the owner responded quickly, which prevented any harm to the animals," he told the New Straits Times when contacted.
The team successfully captured the reptile within 30 minutes. No injuries or livestock losses were reported.
The python was taken to the Baling CDF office and later handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
Mohd Faizol urged the public to remain vigilant, especially during the current spell of erratic weather, and to promptly report any sightings of wild animals to the authorities. - NST
