Don't drag MIC into your squabbles, Saravanan slams 'stupid' Rafizi

Rafizi Ramli has stirred controversy by targeting MIC with his remarks aimed at PKR deputy information chief R Ramanan, only to be reminded of the political roots of his own leader, Anwar Ibrahim.

MIC deputy president M Saravanan criticised Rafizi’s actions, calling them a clear display of political naiveté.

“This shows his stupidity and political immaturity,” he said in a statement to Malaysiakini.

Saravanan further pointed out that Rafizi should be aware that Anwar’s political career began with Umno.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported the PKR deputy president’s attempt to belittle Ramanan by suggesting that his confusion over PKR’s internal workings was rooted in his past experiences with MIC.

“I can’t blame him. Maybe he’s confused by the culture of his old party (MIC) and our party,” Rafizi remarked.

“Taking care of the grassroots, like Ramanan said, is money politics. I don’t manage the party like that. If I wanted to do that (give money, distribute hampers), I’d join another party,” he continued.

This comment followed Ramanan’s critique of certain PKR leaders, who, after assuming prominent positions, had become increasingly inaccessible.

Rafizi’s leadership questioned

Saravanan responded by questioning Rafizi’s leadership abilities, raising concerns about his capacity to manage PKR effectively and to collaborate with Anwar and fellow party members.

“It is imperative to acknowledge MIC’s established structure, rich historical legacy, and its critical role in the formation of Malaysia.

“Moreover, MIC is a legitimate representative of the Indian community, advocating for their aspirations, promoting racial harmony, and addressing their political and social concerns,” he emphasised.

Saravanan added that it was inappropriate for Rafizi to publicly deride parties within the coalition government, especially when MIC’s contributions to Malaysia’s political landscape are indisputable.

Saravanan concluded with a strong message to Rafizi, who faces a challenge for his position from Anwar’s daughter, Nurul Izzah: “Do not drag MIC into your internal party struggles. Defend your position on your own merits.

“We do not wish to be embroiled in PKR’s leadership tussle. But do not use MIC for your own political gain,” he cautioned. - Mkini
