KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, visited Mersing, Johor, to test-drive a newly designed high-speed interceptor boat he designed.
According to a post on His Majesty's official Facebook page, the craft's design and specifications were inspired by his vast knowledge of naval architecture and military training.
"In March, His Majesty gifted a high-tech interceptor boat – the Ibrahim Class IC 1170cc – to the Royal Malaysian Navy.
"The boat, specifically designed as a high-speed interceptor, is capable of operating in tropical waters.
"Sultan Ibrahim also presented a high-tech interceptor boat to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in Pahang the same month," the post read.
In November 2020, Sultan Ibrahim presented a fully equipped IMG speedboat to Region Two Marine Police, complete with a 900-horsepower engine, for operations around the islands and waters off Mersing.
In 2021, further demonstrating his commitment to maritime security, he gifted a Tornado Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) to the 21st Special Forces Group (21 GGK).
The RM1.2 million boat, powered by a 600-horsepower engine, was specifically designed to assist 21 GGK in conducting special operations.
His Majesty's generous contributions reflect his deep commitment to the nation's maritime security and the readiness of enforcement agencies in countering threats at sea. - NST
