SEPANG: Chants of "Free Palestine" echoed through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 arrival hall tonight as more than 100 supporters gathered to welcome home the Malaysian volunteers of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission.
Waving Palestinian flags and holding placards of solidarity, the crowd filled the area near the arrival gates hours before the expected touchdown of the 23 volunteers.
The atmosphere was charged with emotion and unity as supporters gathered in anticipation of the volunteers' arrival.
KLIA police chief Assistant Commissioner Azman Shari'at said enhanced security and crowd control measures were implemented to ensure safety and smooth movement at the terminal.
The volunteers' return marks the end of a tense week after they were detained by Israeli forces on Oct 2 off the coast of Gaza before being released and flown to Istanbul.
The 23 volunteers departed Istanbul Airport at 11.20pm local time yesterday (4.20am Malaysian time today) on an Emirates flight and are expected to touch down later tonight at around 9.50pm.
