Another DAP leader has urged Perikatan Nasional parties to publicly state their stance on PAS MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary’s “seditious provocation”, likening Malaysia’s situation to Palestine.
DAP’s Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee argued that PAS and PN’s leadership as a whole must take immediate and unequivocal action against Marzuk’s remark, which the backbencher labelled as “recklessly seditious, inflammatory, and utterly irresponsible”.
Lee warned that if PAS fails to inform the public of its stance regarding the remarks, its silence would be taken as “confirmation” that the opposition party shares Marzuk’s “belief” that non-Muslims in Malaysia are akin to “Zionist occupiers.”
“But, if PAS disagrees, then it must order (Marzuk) to publicly apologise to all Malaysians,” Lee said in a statement today.
“The same moral demand applies to Bersatu, Gerakan, and every PN component party. Either repudiate his words, or stand condemned for complicity.”
Accusing Marzuk of using religion as a “cloak” to spread dangerous sentiments, Lee also chastised the Pengkalan Chepa MP for supposedly betraying Islam’s call for moderation and the Prophet’s example of coexistence.
False portrayal
Earlier today, Lee’s fellow DAP lawmaker, Syahredzan Johan, took aim at Marzuk’s Facebook post titled “Learning from the history of Palestine: Let us not repeat the same mistake” for falsely portraying Malaysia’s non-Muslim and non-bumiputera citizens as threats to Malay-Muslim interests.
The DAP vice-president called out Marzuk for also equating the non-Malay and non-Muslims with Israel’s oppressive actions against Palestinians.

Marzuk yesterday shared on Facebook excerpts from his speech in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, where he had urged Muslims to learn from Palestine’s history, claiming that “signs of the same thing happening” could now be seen in Malaysia.
He alleged, among others, that since the economic sector is increasingly dominated by non-Muslims and non-bumiputera, major malls, key companies, and strategic lands have “long slipped from the grasp” of Muslims.
Commenting on the claims, Lee condemned Marzuk’s misuse of the Palestinian struggle “to desecrate humanity and sow hatred” among Malaysians, highlighting that such an act should be deemed a “betrayal” of Palestinians’ name and suffering.
“Let us be honest: what Marzuk said was a coded declaration of cultural war against non-Muslims and non-Malays. By comparing Malaysia’s plural society to Palestine’s occupation, he paints his own neighbours as enemies within.
“No one should tolerate such seditious provocation that strikes at the heart of national unity, social peace and constitutional order,” Lee added. - Mkini
