The Court of Appeal today set Dec 5 for the decision on Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh's appeal regarding the High Court's decision dismissing her defamation suit against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan regarding statements at a forum at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
Lawyer Lim Wei Jiet, who is representing Yeoh, told reporters that the date for the decision was set by Court of Appeal deputy registrar Radzilawatee Abdul Rahman at the e-Review case management proceedings today.
Also in attendance was lawyer Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, representing Musa.
On Oct 17, a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal, consisting of Azimah Omar, Choo Kah Sing and Shahnaz Sulaiman, adjourned the appeal decision after hearing submissions from all parties involved.
Yeoh, who is also the youth and sports minister, filed an appeal against the High Court's decision here on Dec 23, 2024, which dismissed her suit against Musa.
Judicial commissioner Arziah Apandi made the decision after finding that Yeoh failed to prove that the statement made by Musa was defamatory.
Yeoh filed a suit against Musa over the statement at the forum on Jan 30, 2020.
Yeoh claimed that Musa, in his speech, among other things, accused her of writing her book titled “Becoming Hannah” with the aim of making Malaysia a Christian country, having connections with Christian and Jewish missionaries to undermine Islam and Malaysia, and prioritising her personal interests over the country.
