KUANTAN: Patients at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) waiting area were taken by surprise when rainwater poured through the ceiling following a heavy downpour this evening.
A 20-second video circulating on Facebook showed water dripping heavily from the ceiling around several light fixtures, flooding the floor at the premises, which is the largest government hospital in Pahang.
Patients, however, appeared unperturbed by the incident as they waited for their turn to seek medical attention.
The 6.30pm leak was confined to one section of the hospital lobby on the ground floor and did not affect any of the wards.
Netizens expressed concern on social media, warning that the ceiling could collapse due to the weight of the water and that the leak might pose a risk to the hospital's electrical system.
Many urged for immediate repairs, especially with the monsoon season that often brings continuous downpours nearing.
It is learnt that several similar incidents had occurred during heavy rain in the past, but today's incident was the worst so far at the lobby section.
Pahang Public Works, Transport and Health committee chairman, Datuk Razali Kassim, said he was awaiting a detailed report on the incident from the hospital management.
"They will provide me with a report soon. Radicare is conducting an inspection at the site," he said in a text message - NST
