PAS MP's Palestine remark: Rayer questions PN's Indian leaders 'silence'

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer today questioned a purported silence by Indian leaders from Perikatan Nasional over an allegedly seditious remark by Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary, who likened Malaysia's current situation to Palestine.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Rayer targeted PN component party leaders - Malaysia Advancement Party (MAP) president P Waythamoorthy, Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) president P Punithan, and Urimai chairperson P Ramasamy.

"We know Palestine is torn by conflict and bloodshed. Here, we’ve just celebrated Deepavali peacefully and harmoniously, where people of all races and communities come together for open houses and such.

"And my question is especially to Waythamoorthy, Punithan, and Ramasamy - what is their response to Marzuk’s statement?

"Why have they remained silent and not issued any statement?" asked the DAP MP.

Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary

Marzuk had recently shared excerpts from his speech in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, on Facebook, urging Muslims to learn from Palestine’s history, claiming that “signs of the same thing happening” could now be seen in Malaysia.

That drew flak from DAP vice-chairperson Syahredzan Johan, who said Marzuk’s Facebook post titled “Learning from the history of Palestine: Let us not repeat the same mistake” falsely portrayed Malaysia’s non-Muslim and non-bumiputera citizens as threats to Malay-Muslim interests.

The Bangi MP called out the PAS lawmaker who equated the non-Malay and non-Muslims with Israel’s oppressive actions against Palestinians.

Other DAP leaders, including Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng and Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee, also criticised Marzuk and urged police to investigate his remarks. - Mkini
