Report: Muhyiddin's missing son-in-law living luxuriously in Middle East

Wanted businessperson Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of Muhyiddin Yassin, is reportedly spending his days on the run in luxury.

The New Straits Times said it had received photos showing Adlan in the company of unnamed Middle Eastern dignitaries.

The English daily also claimed that Adlan - who left Malaysia in 2023 - has also been travelling from the unspecified Middle Eastern country to go on holiday, including to Thailand, where he reportedly played golf and went to a shooting range.

Previously, MACC chief Azam Baki said Adlan (above) was in a Middle Eastern country with which Malaysia did not have an extradition treaty.

Adlan and lawyer Mansoor Saat are wanted over a project concerning the misappropriation of biometric registration, recruitment, and data storage of migrant workers for a government ministry.

The businessperson is facing criminal breach of trust charges over the case.

Adlan, through his lawyer, had in August 2023 denied being on the run from the law. He claimed to have left the country on business and promised to return to Malaysia if there were no elements of “threats and persecution”.

Passport revoked

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reportedly said authorities would investigate how Adlan could travel abroad as his passport was already revoked by the Immigration Department.

According to Bernama, Saifuddin said the revocation was done following an application by MACC to cancel the wanted person's passport.

"The Immigration Department informed me that the MACC had applied for the cancellation of the individual’s passport, and the action has been carried out. That I can confirm,” he said.

Saifuddin spoke about the case during a press conference held after the Home Ministry's monthly assembly in Putrajaya earlier today.

He said the police and Immigration Department would assist in efforts to bring back Adlan to facilitate MACC’s investigation.

"The individual is indeed wanted for MACC’s investigation. So, our priority is to see how the two agencies under the Home Ministry, the Immigration Department and the police, can facilitate his return," he said.

Last month, the MACC came under criticism after Azam said the agency had just submitted a request to cancel Adlan's passport, two years after he was placed on its wanted list. - Mkini
