PETALING JAYA:
Five people have been called in to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in an investigation into a RM58.45 million procurement by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

MACC senior investigation director Zainul Darus said the investigation was launched following disclosures in the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report Series 2, released in July.

“The investigation, including the examination of related documents, is ongoing.

“In addition to the criminal corruption investigation, MACC has opened a governance investigation to examine the management and compliance aspects of the procurement process,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

Zainul said MACC is committed to ensuring that the country’s integrity and governance practices are properly implemented.

In July, Auditor-General Wan Suraya Wan Radzi said three UKM tenders worth RM58.45 million were given to companies that were not supported by evaluation committees.

The report revealed UKM’s tender procurement committee had selected companies that were not recommended by the technical evaluation committee, the financial evaluation committee, or the pre-tender committee.

“There were serious irregularities and weaknesses in the tender procurement process and the governance of procurement management at UKM,” it said. - FMT
