SEMPORNA, Nov 15 — Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is facing a tough fight in his stronghold as a five-cornered contest has emerged for the Senallang state seat.

Shafie is being challenged by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) Marunda KK Ampong; Parti Impian Sabah’s Mohd Lipai @ Samsu Sundalu; former Youth and Sports minister Datuk Askalani Andul Rahim, who is running as an independent; and Parti Perpaduan Malaysia’s Abdul Majid Angkulan.

The situation at the nomination centre remained orderly, with security well-managed despite the large turnout of supporters.

The Sabah State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on October 6 with the consent of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, to pave the way for the 17th state election.

The move marked the end of the 16th assembly’s full five-year term, which began in October 2020. - malaymail
