Klang shooting: How was wanted man allowed to roam freely, asks MP

KUALA LUMPUR: A member of parliament has questioned how a wanted man shot dead at a petrol station had been allowed to roam free despite his notorious criminal record.

Lim Lip Eng of the DAP said the incident reflected weaknesses in police intelligence and operations.

"Did the police really not know his whereabouts before he was shot dead by three other suspects?" the Kepong MP said in a statement.

"How many more criminals are wanted by the police but are freely living their lives like normal people in the country?" he asked.

He said the public deserves to feel safe and to receive a clear explanation of how such an incident could occur.

Last week, a 34-year-old man was shot dead at a petrol station in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

It was later revealed that the man was on the police's wanted list and had a criminal record for multiple offences, having been previously detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).

So far, three men, aged 19 to 35, have been arrested in connection with the murder. - NST
