KLIA aerotrain to halt operations from midnight to 5am daily

This is to allow for inspection and rectification works. Shuttle buses will be operating at full capacity during the period.

PETALING JAYA:

 The aerotrain service at KLIA Terminal 1 will halt operations from midnight to 5am daily to allow for inspection and rectification works to be conducted, the airport said today.

In a Facebook post, KLIA said shuttle buses will be operating at full capacity during the period.

“These measures are part of our ongoing commitment to maintain safe, efficient, and comfortable airport connectivity,” it said.

The aerotrain service resumed operations on July 1 but has seen multiple disruptions since then.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd has since deployed shuttle bus services at the airport around the clock following the frequent breakdowns of the aerotrain.

It implemented an action plan after observing “a declining trend in the aerotrain system’s reliability”, and also ordered project contractors Alstom and IJMC-Pestech Joint Venture to take immediate corrective action.

Deputy transport minister Hasbi Habibollah previously said the provider of the aerotrain system may face a fine of up to RM190,000 for every month it fails to ensure that the trains operate at the optimum level.

He said 19 minor incidents involving the aerotrain were recorded between July 2 and Sept 30, largely because of its signalling system. - FMT
