The prime minister can no longer avoid answering questions regarding the alleged “order to record” Sabah politicians linked to the mining licence scandal revealed by businessperson Albert Tei, said Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Did the prime minister use his position to protect Gabungan Rakyat Sabah leaders linked to the mining scandal as a reward for them to continue supporting him and the Madani government?
“Is it true that the prime minister used the corruption cases as threats against the politicians?” Muhyiddin asked in a statement published on Facebook last night.
The PN chairperson also urged the MACC to investigate the prime minister for the alleged abuse of power, as the allegations against him are more serious than those against his former political aide.
“PN is taking the corruption allegations against the prime minister’s former political aide seriously. This scandal shocked the rakyat as it involved the closest individual to the prime minister.
“(In fact) the allegations that the two individuals were involved in a sinister conspiracy to use the mining licence scandal involving GRS politicians for the prime minister’s personal political interests were the more worrying.
“These allegations (against the prime minister) are more worrying than those against (his) former political aide, which raises very disturbing questions about the prime minister’s integrity,” he added in the post.
Shocking revelations
In the six-minute clip, Tei was seen conversing with a woman, allegedly a proxy to Anwar’s former political aide Shamsul Iskandar Akin, who told the businessperson that Anwar had given his blessings for the Sabah politicians to be secretly recorded.

The video’s release followed a Malaysiakini report on Tei’s allegations against Shamsul, in which he claimed to have spent over RM629,000 on Shamsul, as well as paying for renovations, appliances, and furnishings for two properties - one in Bangsar and another official residence in Putrajaya.
Shamsul subsequently resigned from his post and lodged a police report against the latter’s claims against Anwar, and none of the claims against him.
The woman in the video, Sofia Rini Buyong, has since denied being Shamsul’s proxy in a video published last night and accused Tei of spreading lies and slander against her, despite admitting to meeting the businessperson.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had demanded clarifications on the allegations, while DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng dismissed the video, saying that it is not evidence of anything and that the video is “doctored”.
Tei has been on a warpath to take down politicians he gave money to for mineral exploration licences, which he did not end up getting.

Since last November, Tei has released multiple videos, documents, and WhatsApp screenshots implicating over a dozen GRS politicians in accepting bribes in exchange for the licences. Tei and two assemblypersons were subsequently charged.
GRS chairperson and Sabah caretaker chief minister Hajiji Noor has accused Tei of being part of a cartel aiming to monopolise mining in the state. - Mkini
