New initiatives and the Second Selangor Plan will build on past successes to strengthen the state’s economy and regional role, says menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

“To become a truly economically developed state, we have to up our game to optimise both business and people-centred processes,” he said at the 2023-2024 Selangor Investment Awards ceremony last night
Amirudin said his government will focus on improving efficiency to match the state’s economic output. He said more than RM156 billion in approved investment was recorded across 2023 and 2024.
Among the initiatives he cited were measures to reduce the approval period for renovation permits by local councils, as well as the Speed Selangor Policy initially rolled out for certain sectors, including electrical and electronics, as well as semiconductors.
Also present were Invest Selangor Berhad CEO Hasan Azhari Idris and MBI Selangor group CEO Saipolyazan M Yusop.
Separately, Amirudin said that his administration will table the Second Selangor Plan next year, which will incorporate the key socio-economic development measures over the next five years.
The second blueprint will build on the “success, lessons, and experience we have had in the First Selangor Plan”.
However, Amiruddin said the work ahead would not be easy, especially with the world economy rapidly evolving, amid trying and uncertain geopolitical developments that affect Southeast Asia.
“That is why we have to look within, and we have to strengthen multilateralism, build new networks in Southeast Asia, and identify new markets to diversify export opportunities.”
The state will also explore and leverage the vast opportunities created through Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship and the Asean summit, which had led to enhanced trade agreements, digital economy initiatives, and renewable energy commitments among the member states.
“These efforts are aligned with the state’s mission to reinforce Selangor’s strategic role within Asean and to realise its vision of becoming the gateway to Asean,” he said. - FMT
