Sendayan killing: Man shot and slashed by masked attackers

SEREMBAN: The man who was gunned down at Nusari Biz, Sendayan, last night was also attacked with parangs by a group of assailants, Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said.

He said the victim had a criminal record involving 42 offences, including robbery, causing hurt and housebreaking.

The 33-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered gunshot wounds and slash injuries in the 11pm incident.

"Police received a MERS 999 emergency call from a member of the public at 11.23pm informing us of a shooting incident and an attack involving sharp weapons.

"This case involves the murder of a 33-year-old Malaysian man," he said in a statement today.

Initial investigations showed the man had gone to a nearby restaurant with his family for dinner.

"When the victim was walking towards his vehicle, several cars carrying six masked suspects allegedly blocked his vehicle.

"The suspects, believed to be armed with a pistol and parangs, got out and attacked the victim.

"The victim tried to flee towards the road but the suspects continued chasing him.

"They are believed to have fired several shots before launching a machete attack that left the victim severely injured.

He was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel," Alzafny said.

A preliminary examination found both slash wounds and gunshot injuries on the victim's body.

A team comprising investigating officers, the Forensic Unit and the K9 unit was deployed to the scene to gather physical evidence.

A post-mortem was conducted today at the Forensic Medicine Department of Rembau Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971.

Alzafny said police are tracking down all the suspects and the vehicles believed to have been used.

"The motive and identities of all suspects are still under investigation. Members of the public with information are asked to contact 06-603222," he added. - NST
