Rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, will be released on police bail tomorrow, said Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar.
He told Malaysiakini that as of now, there are no leads in the police investigation paper that could connect the rapper to the death of a Taiwanese influencer, Hsieh Yu-hsin.
“Instructions have been given for further investigation to be conducted.
“So far, there is no evidence that shows the suspect was involved in causing the influencer’s death.
“However, if there are any new findings, the AGC will take appropriate action,” he said.
Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the case’s investigation paper had been referred to the AGC.
Namewee is a key person in assisting the investigation as he was reportedly the last person seen with the influencer before she was found dead in the bathtub of a Kuala Lumpur hotel room on Oct 22.
The rapper surrendered himself to the police on Nov 5 and was put under remand, which would end tomorrow.
Police are awaiting the full post-mortem report and toxicology analysis to determine the exact cause of the 33-year-old’s death.
The case, which was initially classified as a sudden death, is now being investigated as a murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - Mkini
