Anwar makes quick u-turn after Sabah rout, announcing e-invoicing relief, RM4bil tax refunds

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wasted no time responding to PH’s crushing Sabah defeat, announcing immediate relief measures for businesses and Sabah infrastructure.

Speaking at the Sentuhan Madani programme, Anwar said the current e-invoicing threshold imposed an unnecessary burden on small operators. He also admitted that the policy contributed to urban Chinese voter backlash.

“The previous e-invoicing threshold of RM500,000 had imposed unnecessary burden on small operators. Big corporations can cope, but SMEs felt the pressure,” he said during his speech at a Sentuhan Madani event with the Sabah state government at the Sabah International Convention Centre.

“The Cabinet has agreed to raise the threshold to RM1 mil, meaning businesses [operating] below that will not be compelled to implement e-invoicing,” he added.

Anwar also doubled the fast-track tax refund allocation from RM2 bil to RM4 bil until December, addressing long-standing SME complaints about delayed repayments.

On Sabah’s chronic infrastructure woes, Anwar ordered monthly federal-state monitoring of all federally funded projects starting January, with major decisions on electricity, water and village roads due within one to two months.

“I want to be a leader who listens and responds, leadership is responsibility, not privilege,” he said, vowing Putrajaya’s commitment remains unchanged despite PH’s electoral setback. — Focus Malaysia
