Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil today said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli had provided a “comprehensive” explanation to criticisms against her appointment.
Speaking to reporters during a final post-cabinet press conference for this year, Fahmi cited Marhamah’s explanations, which covered issues including her involvement in raising funds for the “Justice for Zara” campaign.
“I found the explanation to be fairly comprehensive, whether in relation to the Justice for Zara campaign or the funds that were raised.
“In terms of regulations, everything complied with the required conditions and had obtained consent, as well as support and approval from the Sabah Chief Minister’s Office,” he said.
Yesterday, Marhamah reportedly said that no funds were misused in the management of the Justice for Zara Fund account set up to cover the costs of the inquest process.

As the activist who initiated the Justice for Zara movement, she said the fund’s account was fully segregated and not mixed with any other accounts of NGOs she had previously chaired.
Instead, she reportedly said the fund has its own designated signatories, involving Zara Qairina Mahathir’s mother, several lawyers, as well as an NGO committee.
She added that the total amount collected stood at RM254,995.92, with a remaining balance of RM96,059.97 after taking into account expenditures, including transportation and accommodation costs for expert witnesses and Zara’s family throughout the preparations for and duration of the inquest.
Fahmi today also said Marhamah’s name does not appear on the fund’s recipient account, and that the funds had been audited.
“I do not see this issue dragging on, but there are some parties attacking her on social media.
“I think the explanation she has provided is sufficient,” said Fahmi.
In the reshuffle, Marhamah was appointed as senator to replace senator Zulkifli Hasan, who replaced Na'im Mokhtar as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs). - Mkini
