Ismail Sabri to receive “doctor” title for PhD on Malaysia’s COVID-19 management

 

DATO’ Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Malaysia’s ninth Prime Minister, today successfully passed his viva voce for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), subject to minor amendments.

The title of his thesis reflects his experience as prime minister during the national pandemic, namely Crisis Management and Health Security Policy 2020–2022: Malaysia’s Strategy in Confronting the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The PhD viva voce, held this morning at the Viva Room of the Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG), UUM, was chaired by Associate Professor Dr Kamarul Azman Khamis. The external examiner was Professor Datuk Dr Sivamuragan Pandian, while the internal examiner was Associate Professor Dr Nazariah Osman.

He was supervised by a Thesis Committee led by the Dean of GSGSG, Professor Dr Rusdi Omar, as first supervisor, with Associate Professor Dr Che Mohd Aziz Yaacob and Associate Professor Ts Dr Jessica Ong Hai Liaw serving as second and third supervisors respectively.

However, final approval remains subject to the decision of the University Senate.

Also present to welcome Ismail Sabri this morning was Professor Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), who is currently performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor. — Focus Malaysia
