Malacca shooting: Cops await MCMC report on death threat against victims' lawyer

Police are awaiting a report from the MCMC to help identify the individual believed to have posted threats against a lawyer on social media in connection with a shooting case in Malacca.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said statements from the lawyer concerned and several individuals have been recorded to assist in the investigations.

He said the lawyer, who represents three men involved in the incident, lodged a police report on Dec 5 after reading a comment on a Facebook post.

“We have requested assistance from MCMC to obtain the profile of the individual who posted the threatening comment, and are still awaiting feedback.

“The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he told a media conference today.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat previously stated that the lawyer had lodged the report after reading a comment by an unknown individual on a social media post while at his office, believed to be linked to a case he was handling.

On Nov 24, Malacca police shot dead three suspects known as the Geng DT after they attacked a police officer with machetes while he was attempting to detain them at about 4am.

Malacca police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar was reported as saying that investigations found that the main suspect, aged 29, had 39 previous criminal and drug-related records and was also wanted by police, while another suspect had 12 criminal and drug-related records.

The group was believed to be actively involved in armed robbery cases in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, with losses estimated at RM1.35 million.
