Prosecution will apply DNAA for one of Namewee's drug charges

The prosecution will apply for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) for one drug-related charge against Namewee, confirmed Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar.

He told Malaysiakini, when contacted today, that the application would be made following a negative result on the urine test of the rapper.

“Since the pathology report is negative, the prosecution will apply for DNAA for the offence (which) was under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Meanwhile, the prosecution involving offences under Section 39A(1) of the same, on drug possession, will remain.”

Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was charged on Oct 24 with two drug-related offences, where he pleaded not guilty to one count of possessing 5.12g of ecstasy and one count of administering amphetamine, methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinol, and ketamine, as reported by New Straits Times.

He was arrested on Oct 22 after he was found with nine pills suspected to be ecstasy in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room where a Taiwanese influencer had died.

He is a key person in assisting the investigation into the influencer’s death, as he was reportedly the last person seen with her before she was found dead in a bathtub.

The case, which was initially classified as a sudden death, is now being investigated as a murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - Mkini
