Terengganu slaps trespass notices on FELDA sites after decades of unmet conditions

THE Terengganu government has defended its aggressive move to slap trespass notices on FELDA-settled land, insisting it has every right to act over unpaid premiums, taxes and profit-sharing totalling an estimated RM600 mil.

Former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Said today revealed that 15,000 hectares across Marang, Setiu, Kemaman and Dungun remain state property.

He said that was because FELDA and its listed arm FGV never fulfilled key conditions, especially bringing in more than 3,000 settlers to eradicate hardcore poverty.

“The land remains state-owned as long as ownership has not been transferred to FELDA,” he said to Berita Harian recently.

“We acknowledge that FELDA’s top management did pay the premium and land tax around 2009, but we returned the money because they failed to meet the conditions, particularly bringing in settlers,” he added.

Ahmad Said said their main condition was that FELDA must bring in more than 3,000 settlers to resolve hardcore poverty among the people. According to him, payments made around 2009 were returned due to non-compliance.

The current state administration last Monday erected Section 425 trespass notices at 10 sites after FELDA ignored repeated demands spanning four decades. — Focus Malaysia
