SEREMBAN: Rantau assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan yesterday expressed disappointment over the distribution of political posts in Negri Sembilan, saying it does not reflect the spirit of cooperation practised at the federal level.
Mohamad, fondly known as Tok Mat, said the distribution of posts should be conducted fairly and in a balanced manner, as practised in the unity government, given that the state government was jointly formed by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).
"I feel disappointed because we pledged at the federal level to manage the country together.
"Negri Sembilan should be the same. We are together in managing the state, and we must share responsibilities equally," he said during the Negri Sembilan State Assembly sitting here.
"That is why at the Cabinet level, if the Higher Education Ministry is held by PH, the Rural and Regional Development Ministry is held by BN.
"But in Negri Sembilan, the recent decision was not like that. It should be one for you, one for me; one for me, one for you. Here, it's two for me and none for you. It shouldn't be like that," he added.
Mohamad, who is also the Rembau member of Parliament, said each component party in the Negri Sembilan unity government must respect one another.
He added that it is difficult for his side to explain the issues raised by grassroots members.
"Wouldn't it be better if the allocation of senators was one for PH and one for BN? We want, as far as possible, to jointly manage the state and the country, but out there, there is a limit to how much we can restrain our feelings.
"Decisions like this are unacceptable. I do not want this to happen again. Respect our partners.
"As mentioned by Sikamat (assemblyman and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun), those who invest together share the gains and the losses together. But here, the investment is unequal.
"One side invests alone and gains, while we bear the losses," he said.
Mohamad therefore hopes such issues will not recur in the future, as they could raise concerns, particularly at the Umno grassroots level. - NST
