KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh today extended an invitation to Pas to mend fences after some leaders began subtly criticising Bersatu following the appointment of the new Perlis Menteri Besar.
In a Facebook post, the Merlimau assemblyman singled out Pas Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, one of the most vocal critics in a strategically timed olive branch.
"Former friends devour one another, and allies can turn into rivals... But God willing, we can turn rivals into friends @Fadhli Shaari," Dr Akmal said.
Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had recently questioned Pas-Bersatu relations after the new Menteri Besar's appointment, posting a pointed comment on Facebook: "Former friends devour one another. It means allies have chosen to become rivals."
Fadhli had also urged Bersatu to act against assemblymen who withdrew support from former Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
Dr Akmal had also proposed reviving Muafakat Nasional (MN), the political alliance between Umno and PAS, amid the Perlis political turbulence, where eight assemblymen allegedly withdrew their support for Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
"Since we are dissolving it anyway, why not dissolve PN altogether and re-establish Muafakat Nasional? What do you think?" he asked.
Ahmad Fadhli welcomed the suggestion, calling it pivotal to consolidating and reinvigorating 'ummah' unity. - NST
