Video of Dr M calling Muhyiddin a thief 'manipulated': Johor Bersatu Youth

Johor Bersatu Youth claimed certain irresponsible parties had "manipulated" a video clip that was recorded during their meeting with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya earlier this week.

This came after a two-minute video went viral on WhatsApp, where Mahathir purportedly accused Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin of having stolen the party's money.

Alias Rasman, who is the state youth wing chief, dismissed the notion and claimed that Mahathir was referring to someone else instead of Muhyiddin.

He said the video had been "edited" for the political benefit of certain individuals.

"The video was edited. The person behind it had cut (the original) recording, so it has become misleading.

"I know who is behind it and I will initiate legal action," Alias told Malaysiakini earlier today.

Alias said the meeting was part of the Johor Bersatu Youth courtesy visit to Mahathir's office earlier this week, and was in the knowledge of Muhyiddin and Bersatu Youth national chief Hilman Idham.

According to him, Mahathir had delivered "more important issues" during their meeting, but some individuals who participated in the meeting instead chose to "manipulate the video".

Avoiding jail

The video clip began circulating on WhatsApp this morning, with a caption saying Mahathir revealed that Muhyiddin wanted to become a prime minister to avoid imprisonment.

Mahathir, in the footage, was heard saying that a certain someone "had some problems" and "wanted to be a prime minister not to serve" but instead out of fear of getting jailed.

"Because he also stole money. I know. It is the party's money. Money was given to the party (but) he did not surrender it to the party, instead he kept it at his house," Mahathir was heard saying, but without directly mentioning any name.

In a later part, the former Langkawi MP was heard criticising Muhyiddin, saying the latter did not listen to his advice against cooperating with Najib Abdul Razak.
