PKR not perfect but reform agenda continues, says Anwar

 PKR leaders and members must come to terms with the fact that the party is not perfect while continuing to push for reforms to be implemented in the government, says party president Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking to Sarawak PKR members at a “mini convention” in Kuching today, Anwar said all party members needed to close ranks as they continued PKR’s struggle.

“The true test of executing change or reforms is when one is in the seat of power, not after losing power or having been removed.

“I admit that not all the reforms that we desire are being implemented as quickly as we would like.

“However, what’s important is that we recognise that we are not perfect, and stay consistent in doing our best and giving our all (to push for reforms),” the prime minister said in a Facebook post.

Anwar’s former party deputy, Rafizi Ramli, has been outspoken in criticising the government and PKR over the slow pace of reforms after relinquishing his Cabinet post.

Rafizi resigned as the economy minister in May 2025 after losing the PKR deputy presidency to Anwar’s daughter, Nurul Izzah, in the party elections.

Last month, he rejected claims that Umno was the main obstacle to Pakatan Harapan’s reform agenda, saying Anwar had “immense influence” to push through reforms.

The Pandan MP also said he had not seen serious opposition from Umno at the Cabinet level towards many reform issues.

Rafizi has also hinted at defending his parliamentary seat in the 16th general election under a different banner, a statement that led to him being served with a show-cause letter from PKR. - FMT
