PETALING JAYA:
Selangor PAS has called on all parties to exercise restraint amid rising tensions surrounding places of worship.

In a statement issued in Malay, Mandarin and Tamil, Selangor PAS commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri expressed concern over recent incidents, including intimidation and torching of vehicles.

He said such actions are “deeply regrettable” and unacceptable in a country that upholds the rule of law and values harmony among its multi-ethnic population.

Halim said disputes over land ownership or the construction of places of worship should be handled through legal processes and relevant authorities, warning that taking matters into one’s own hands could threaten public order.

“At the same time, the government should act promptly, transparently, and firmly to manage the situation and take measures to resolve it.

“Delays in addressing this issue will only create space for speculation and the spread of misinformation that could inflame ethnic and religious sentiments.

“I hope that community leaders, religious figures, and political leaders play their part in calming the situation and guiding society towards a mature and prudent approach.”

His statement comes amid heightened public concern over recent disputes related to places of worship in several states.

Earlier, national unity minister Aaron Ago Dagang urged the police to take decisive action against those involved in recent incidents seen as a threat to the country’s racial and religious harmony.

These incidents include an attack on activist Cikgu Chandra by burning three of his vehicles, the alleged desecrating of a sacred Hindu symbol, and an alleged attack on controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth. - FMT
