Sensitive issues must be resolved early, says Dr Wee

IPOH: Grievances of the people, especially sensitive issues, should be resolved before these become huge problems, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the government and politicians should address and find solutions to these issues while ensuring harmony in the multiracial society.

"Grievances of the people, especially those of non-Muslims like the demolition of temples and sensitive issues, should be addressed before these become big issues.

"We need to find solutions and harmonise all of society," he said in a press conference after attending the Perak MCA Chinese New Year reunion dinner here on Tuesday (March 10).

Dr Wee said finding the best solutions should be the standard way of handling sensitive issues in Malaysia.

He was commenting on the demolition of Hindu temples in several states, a matter also raised by MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon during the dinner.

Dr Wee also noted that the uncertain economic outlook would increase the burden on the people and called on the government to provide solutions.

"There will be a lot of pressure, inflation and more grievances for the people. These must get the attention of the government.

"As a wakil rakyat, we should provide checks and balances. There is nothing wrong for us to comment on issues and policies of the government," he added.

Separately, Dr Wee said MCA wants to contest all its traditional seats in the 16th General Election.

"We must ensure that we put the right candidates who can be an alternative to the incumbents. We will have to work hard to win the hearts of the people," he said. - Star
