Arrest him now: Single mothers' group demands justice for wife beaten into miscarriage

SUNGAI PETANI: The Jati Waja Sungai Petani Single Mothers Association has called on authorities to immediately arrest a man suspected of assaulting his wife until she miscarried.

Its advisor, Datuk Shahanim Mohamad Yusoff, said the man's actions were extremely brutal and that he should face a punishment proportionate to his crimes.

"We condemn domestic violence. To beat, punch, kick, stomp, and strike a wife with a pipe is utterly unacceptable by any human standard.

"He beat his wife, causing her to be hospitalised, suffering from severe trauma," she told reporters after filing a report regarding the case at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here today.

Shahanim, who is also the Sungai Petani Umno division chief, said based on information she received, the victim suffered swelling to her head after being hit with a plastic chair, was punched repeatedly, and stomped on the neck and face.

Shahanim added that the medical report also confirmed that the victim suffered a miscarriage of her 12-week-old foetus, along with fractures to seven ribs on the right side, six ribs on the left side, and three fractures to her spine.

"I understand that the victim is experiencing devastating trauma. The suspect is also said to have threatened her life. This is a very grave level of violence," she said.

"On behalf of women across Malaysia, I hope the perpetrator faces a punishment that fits his crimes, considering he was also previously involved in an even more severe case in Johor Baru, where he allegedly beat his wife until she fell into a coma," she added.

A viral social media report revealed that a 39-year-old civil servant suffered a miscarriage after allegedly being beaten by her husband, said to be the same man who beat his pregnant wife until she fell into a coma in a 2021 Johor case.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan later confirmed that the 43-year-old suspect is indeed the same man who injured Jahidah Nordin, leaving her comatose.

Police are now hunting for the suspect, and the case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code.
