Kelantan cops to call more assemblymen over viral clip mocking policemen

KOTA BARU: Police are expected to record statements from several people, including assemblymen, to assist in investigations into a viral video of a man mocking policemen during a roadblock recently.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that police had completed recording a statement from Melor assemblyman Wan Rohimi Wan Daud to assist in the investigation.

He said those identified would be called in stages soon.

"Police have identified several individuals to assist in the case. They will be called as witnesses as they were seen in the viral video," he said.

Meanwhile, Wan Rohimi arrived at the police station at about 5.15pm accompanied by nearly 20 supporters.

He left the station after giving his statement at about 6.45pm.

Yesterday, Yusoff said police had launched an investigation into a viral video showing a man mocking policemen stationed at a roadblock set up to intercept a motorcycle convoy heading to the airport.

He said the video featured an individual making remarks that ridiculed and belittled officers on duty.

Yusoff described the remarks as irresponsible and provocative, noting that they could damage the image, reputation and credibility of the force.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting behaviour. - NST
